My new 99 cent contemporary romance is now available on Amazon for Kindle.

BLURB: A sweet contemporary romance novelette from the award winning author of  "The Budapest Moon Series."

Figure skating is in Christian Jansen's blood. When he trips on uneven ice and drops his partner, Chris breaks his arm. Now he's looking for a second chance.

Famke deVries lost her skating coach four months ago. Needing to connect with her roots, she returns to Amsterdam and agrees to be Christian's new skating partner.

Christian and Famke connect on a deep level, understanding each other's losses, but will their chemistry off the ice interfere with their goal to go to the Olympics?

EXCERPT:

Passengers hurried out into the airport. Famke stood next to her brother chatting easily with him. Christian froze. His pulse quickened. He remembered how at sixteen she appeared slender and almost mousy with her black-framed glasses and short brown hair, but now she'd changed. She looked every bit a confident young woman with a dazzling smile and a sparkle of excitement in her soulful green eyes.

Romantic Getaways: The Taj Mahal

I've never been to India, so understandably, I'm a bit nervous writing about the Taj Mahal. I remember though in 7th grade, my social studies class conducted a look at India for a semester and when I saw a picture of the Taj Mahal, it took my breath away. Just picture a young 13-year-old, eyes wide open - my mouth slightly agape as I drank in the wonder of the structure. In that moment my heart knew one thing – a picture could not do the Taj Mahal justice. This was a building that needed to be seen in person. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to do that yet.

I suppose the thing that has resonated with me throughout the years was knowing the Taj Mahal was built for a king's (Shah) wife who died in childbirth. What an amazing testament to love.

The Taj Mahal is in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. Construction began in 1632. (Charles I is on the throne in England, to give you a little perspective) The main building, the mausoleum was finished in 1648 (the year before Charles' died) and the surrounding gardens and structures were finished five years later. Materials from all over India and Asia were used. Over 1,000 elephants helped transport the materials. They include white marble, crystal, turquoise, Lapis lazuli, sapphires, and carnelian.

During the 1600's, the Mughals were the Muslim rulers of India. Shah Jahan ruled during a period of great prosperity, but became grief stricken when his 3rd wife, Mumtaz Mahal died giving birth to their 14th child. He employed the best architects of his times to build a beautiful mausoleum for her.

I can't begin to describe the Taj Mahal, but I will say importance was place on symmetry. This attention, at least for me, is what gives the Taj Mahal it's majestic beauty.

What happened to Shah Jahan after his wife's death? Shortly after the Taj Mahal was finished, his son deposed him, placing him under house arrest. When Jahan died, his son buried him next to his wife in the Taj Mahal.

Nowadays the beauty of the Taj Mahal is threatened by environmental pollution. The pollution has slowly been turning the structure yellow. Currently, there is a 4,000 square mile zone around the Taj Mahal in which strict emission standards have been enacted.

Also, due to a lack of water in the Yamura River, the wooden supports may be rotting, compromising the mausoleum's structural integrity. Only 5 items are allowed in – water in see-through bottles, small video cameras, still cameras, mobile phones and small ladies' purses.

Question: Have you seen the Taj Mahal? What was your first impression?

Book Review for: Hidden Truths by Angela Britnell

Book Review for: Hidden Truths
Written by Angela Britnell
Desert Breeze Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-61252-266-1
Avail as an ebook

4 Stars

Britnell pens a suspenseful contemporary romance with "Hidden Truths." When British author Fiona Marshall meets country singer, Blake Mayer, the sparks fly, but both have complicated issues to face if they're going to move forward with their lives.

As the story opens, Fiona seeks a place to get in touch with her roots and joins her brother and his family in Cornwall, England. The subject of her book, Nathan Rylant, sends his enforcer threatening her so she will pull her book. Fiona meets Blake when he steps into her brother's vicarage trying to escape a rainstorm. The pair hit it off, but Fiona is reluctant to discuss her problems with Blake. He's also reluctant to talk about himself. He's seeking to "discover" his music again after a rough year and divorce. As the threats increase. Fiona and Blake realize they have to face hidden truths in order to move forward with their lives, but will they come together as a couple or be forced to part?

Britnell's writing style is easy to read. Her international settings will take you on a great adventure along with the characters. The plot flows well. Blake is a true hero, noble, honest, and willing to take action. Fiona's not lacking in determination or inner strength, but her doubts about "the system" fuel some of her more questionable decisions. The supporting cast comes across as 'real' and 'honest' and will warm the reader's heart.

The novel is sophisticated for romance readers and the love scenes are mainstream and capture the sensuality of the couple. Overall, "Hidden Truths" will take you on a journey full of intrigue, suspense and love.  I highly recommend this book.

"May I kiss you?" His voice was low and husky.

"Yes."

He leaned forward, his lips feather-light, touching hers with tantalizing persuasion until she opened up to him. He kept the kiss slow, thoughtful, enjoying the hints of berries and currants that lingered from the malbec. He pulled away gently.

"That was nice," she whispered.
"Call me tomorrow."

Sofia giggled. "We took down the ugly tone-toned Soviet buildings first."

"How naughty," Darrin teased.

Sofia turned into a parking lot. "This is your hotel. It is one of the finest in Warsaw."

Darrin chuckled. "It's a Hilton."

Sofia glanced at him. How she adored his winsome smile. "Are you teasing me?"

"We have a lot of Hiltons in America."

Book Review for: It's Complicated by Angela Britnell

Book Review for: It's Complicated
Written by: Angela Britnell
Desert Breeze Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-61252-195-4
Avail as: ebook
4 Stars

Britnell pens an endearing contemporary romance with "It's Complicated." Charles Ashton is a playboy in trouble. Emily Worthing leads a stagnant life. When the two meet there's no denying the electric chemistry they share, but can they overcome the challenges that life throws at them?

Set in St. Minton, Cornwall, England, Emily works as a math teacher. At Dr. Wilson's New Year's party, she meets his nephew, Charles Ashton, and the sparks fly. She finds Charles, (Ash) intriguing. He's the first man to warm her heart since her disastrous relationship with a doctor over a year ago.

When Ash looks at Emily, he discovers that indefinable quality he finds attractive in a woman. Both, however, are haunted by emotional demons. Despite Emily's fears, she dares to open herself up to Ash and the couple have sex.

Ash, unfortunately has serious problems on his hands. He's blamed for stealing money at a poker game which he didn't do. After suffering a severe beating, he's got to come clean with Emily, only he's afraid his past will scare her off. Dare Emily trust her heart to Ash? When it comes to falling in love, it's complicated for the couple.

Britnell's writing style is easy to read and engages the reader. The dialogue is sharp and distinctive to each character. The plot flows well and even the supporting cast of characters are interesting.

Ash wants something better for his life. Watching him grow with the help of his loved ones was very rewarding. Emily also faces her fears with true inner courage that I admired. The best part of the story for me was the characterization. Watching both Emily and Ash take risks warmed my heart. I also enjoyed the international setting.

The love scenes are mainstream for romance readers. They capture the intensity and chemistry of the couple well. "It's Complicated" promises endearing characters, romantic locales, and an unpredictability that will keep readers turning the pages to find out what happens next.
