Modern Day Thanksgiving Customs - Thanksgiving Week #3

Joe getting his soccer medal

So what goes on in your house during thanksgiving? Do you bake a big feast? Or do you go out to eat?

Nowadays we're all known to stuff ourselves to discomfort and OD on triptofan. Men are known to sit down in front of the TV and watch football while the women clean the dishes. Then it's time for...

PIE.

After Pie there's more football and its time to think about Black Friday Sales.

So...fess up. What's your favorite pie? What two American football teams always play on Thanksgiving? Who do you root for? What are your favorite turkey day foods? Do you have a speciality you make?

What are you thankful for this year? Me? My boys. Especially 5 year old Joe who struggles with sensory issues. I'm very thankful that I can mainstream in his classes despite his challenges.

I'm thankful for my 9 year old Andrew who loves to dance and is a great big brother to Joe.

I'm thankful to have celebrated 20 years of marriage to a great guy.

And I'm thankful for blueberry pie on Thanksgiving.

  1. Okay my very favourite pie is Apple, always will be, but Pumpkin is a close second, followed by Key Lime..
I don't know the two teams that play, because I don't watch the games on your US Thanksgiving.
But I am thankful everyday for all the wonderful people I have in my life, that make getting out of bed each day worth it and counting my blessings.

Have a wonderful thanksgiving. May the bounty on your table be plentiful and your blessings many.

  2. Well--apple pie is definitely my favorite.

I have so much to be thankful for it makes a long list. I think here I will mention only that I'm thankful for the technology that allows us to make friends online through groups like RomVets.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. I am thankful for my husband being here with me for this year. He has had a rough year started it with Christmas and New Year's in the hospital then again in March he was in the hospital.
I'm hoping he will be able to make the trip to East Texas to his family's dinner. It will make 2 years in a row I don't have to run off to work-lol. Happy Thanksgiving Steph I love pecan and chocolate and chess pie. My mother's fudge and my mother in law's dressing. As long as I have dressing, jellied cranberry sauce, and giblet gravy.

  4. About 15 years ago, we started going out where we board our horses with friends to as my DH said "have one holiday without the stress of family dynamics". It has evolved over the years to turkey is cooked there, and everyone else brings other things. I can't walk into the door without my beer bread in hand. The core group has created our own traditions. I'm thankful for their friendship and for my family.

  5. I was in the US Army from 1986-1997. It sounds like you have developed wonderful traditons for Thanksgiving. Thanks so much for sharing.

Kathleen, thanks so much for sharing. I'm a sucker for blueberry pie but my son Andrew loves French Apple Pie.

Theresa, I love the RomVets list and the fellowship with the other authors there. Everyone is very encouraging. Thanks so much for sharing your favorite pie.

Kathy, thanks for popping in. I know it's been tough with your husband and his medical issues. Blessings and Grace to you, my friend.

And to everyone, may you have a wonderful thanksgiving full of laughter, smiles, and love.

  6. We've had a roller coaster of health and wellness issues to deal with for several family members, so I too, am grateful that today, those are not taking center stage. As per pie, pumpkin. And if I'm not mistaken, Detroit and Dallas are the two teams that always play today.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Steph!
