2.99 Steampunk Romance: A Gentleman and a Rogue #kindledeal

GOLD Winner - 2013 Reader's Favorite Contest in Romance: Historical

BLURB: Lady Keira Russell is destined to bring compressed natural gas to Britain. Her inner courage and mental toughness rarely falter – except when Prince Edmund Windsor is involved.
Edmund of Wales is from the future. His last jaunt through history muffed up the time line. Now, he's here to set it straight and win Keira's heart.
For Keira, if it isn't one obstacle, it's another. Queen Victoria has sponsored a competition to find a cleaner fuel source than coal. Keira's father is trying to build a windmill and the Ridgecrofts are working with gasoline. Then there's Edmund, whose sensual kisses and heated stares distract her down to her bones.
Keira has a choice: trust Edmund's notorious mischief-making or put her faith in Queen Victoria to make the right decision, but if Keira makes the wrong choice, the future of Great Britain will be changed forever.

ENJOY THIS EXCERPT:

Keira stepped forward and stood next to Edmund. With a gentle touch, she placed her hand on Edmund's elbow. Pride swelled through him. He wasn't quite sure what to do next, but he needed to put Jonas on notice concerning Keira.

Jonas nodded, acknowledging Keira. A new respect grew in his eyes and Edmund scowled. No way in Hell would he allow Jonas near his woman.

"You are a rogue, Mr. Byron," said Keira.

He chuckled. "Be thankful I'm not a scoundrel like Mr. Windsor. Now, I suggest you and the Windsors leave this room."

"Not until you tell me why." Keira's voice was firm.

"Why, what?"

"Why my father? This time? Why wind?"

Jonas cocked his head to the side and an amused little grin crossed his face. Edmund

wanted to smack that expression clean into next week. Instead, he gritted his teeth.

"It was His Royal Highness who piqued my curiosity when he asked me for my help with

the time traveling machine."

2.99 steampunk romance: Victorian Scoundrel #kindledeal

Winner: BRONZE 2012 Reader's Favorite Contest, Romance: History

2011 Hope Chest Reviews Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Romance Series

BLURBIt's 2011 and compressed natural gas has taken over from the coal producing steam machines of the Victorian Age. Alice Windsor, Princess of York, follows her mischief-making cousin, Edmund of Wales, back to 1851 where Prince Albert is hosting Britain's Great Exhibition.
Alice soon finds herself over her head in trouble. Edmund is determined to help Prince Albert build a dirigible and the prime minister appears intent in preventing her from stopping Edmund. Alice knows it's too early for the massive flying machine to take to the air. Complicating matters is the passionate Grayson Kentfield, Earl of Swinton. Alice can't stop her pulse from pounding when she's near him.
Can Alice give her heart to a man from the past while working to stop Edmund from changing history?
BOOK TRAILER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IUYj2d7ZeY

ENJOY THIS EXCERPT:
A look of befuddlement crossed Alice's face. "Prime Minister?"

Grayson's companion, Sir John Russell, crossed his arms. He was just as tall as Grayson with salt and pepper hair around the temples and weary brown eyes, made so by the exertion of day-to-day politics.

"Yes, I'm the prime minister and this is Earl Swinton. Why are you here at the palace?"

Alice paused, pursing her lips, and tried to quickly think of an explanation. Then her eyes lit up. "I'm here to see Prince Albert."

Sir John raised an eyebrow. "Really? What business do you have with him?"

"I'm here to discuss an exhibit for the Great Exhibition he's planning."

"Um, no doubt it's a fashion exhibit," said Sir John.

Alice beamed from ear to ear. "Why, yes, it is."

From the playful look in Alice's eyes, Grayson couldn't help but wonder if Alice was serious about her reply.

"Well, I will help you. Swinton, take this young lady to one of the reception rooms while I meet with the prince's secretary."

"Of course, Sir John," said Grayson. He turned his full attention onto Alice. "Come with me, Miss Windsor."

She flashed Grayson a devastating smile and fell in step next to him as they passed through the entrance. Curious. Her position implied equality. Proper etiquette would have her walk behind him. He said nothing, keenly aware of the warm sensation she caused fluttering in his veins.

Overall, a fun and breezy read that really doesn’t take itself seriously. With sweet and funny characters, the tale was enjoyable and engaging. A fantastic edition to the steam-punk genre....bring on book two :)

Hope Chest Reviews: 4.5 Stars:
Victorian Scoundrel was a nice easy read, but sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered. The pacing was pretty snappy with the plot moving right along, while the dialog was sharp and sometimes witty

99 cents young adult romance: Young Witchcraft #kindledeal #99cents

3RD PLACE: Young/New Adult Short Story, International Digital Awards 2015

BLURB:

Rachel's secret would have Cotton Mather rolling over in his grave. She's been raised from an early age to use magic for good, despite her temptation to cast a spell against Phil the bully who can't stop teasing her.

Joe thinks Rachel is cool, especially when she weaves her healing magic spells on him, but he's got his own problems. It's not easy keeping Rachel safe from Phil's constant threats.

When Phil poisons Rachel, can love and little young witchcraft bring Rachel and Joe together or have years of Phil's bullying ruined their relationship for good?

EXCERPT:

Suzie bumped into Rachel's shoulder. Rachel nearly lost her balance, extended her leg, and regained her bearing. Thank the broomsticks Suzie's contact didn't start a bleeding episode.

"I'd be careful if I were you. Don't cross me."

"What you did was mean and you know it." Rachel squared her shoulders, despite the knots in her stomach.

Suzie narrowed her eyes.

"Is there a problem?" Joe approached, his arms crossed.

"You two losers deserve each other." Suzie rolled her eyes and walked off.

Rachel swallowed hard, pushing the hurt from Suzie's comment aside for now. Rachel glanced at Joe. "Anna's ankle is swollen. Can you help her out to her car?"

"Sure."

Rachel smiled her appreciation at Joe. He'd grown tall, over six feet and his green eyes sparkled like gems when the light caught them a certain way. His blond hair had darkened a bit to sandy blond, but he kept his hair in a nice neat cut. He often had a five o'clock shadow that she found incredibly attractive on him. Joe was lean and with thin muscles, and not an ounce of fat on him. He could tear up a refrigerator. Fruit, pizza, and celery were his favorite foods. He was as picky as a black cat about what he ate since he had a peanut allergy. Joe played on the football team as a tight end or a running back. His practice must have gotten over early tonight.

A part of her wanted to reach out for his hand like she did when they were kids, back when life wasn't so complicated, but something held her back. Hurt? Doubt? Lack of courage? She sighed. Her self-esteem had taken a big hit today, but she wanted to be a good friend to Anna so she brushed aside her anxiety. Now that Joe was here, Rachel could do anything.

3.99 steampunk romance: A Princess is Always Right #kindle

BLURB:

Sophia may be the youngest Windsor, but she knows her mind. A Princess of York, she's committed to do her duty – prevent Jonas Byron from finding Nikola Tesla and decimating the time line.

Jax Ruston is a rugged metalsmith with curly hair and dimples to die for. A resident of 1855, he's pledged to help Sophia find Jonas. Together, they journey across continental Europe in pursuit of Jonas.

Despite her duty, Sophia's attracted to handsome Jax. However, he's committed to living in 1855. Can Sophia keep her focus on her mission, or will desire interfere with her task? Only one thing is certain: a princess is always right.

EXCERPT:

She wrinkled her brow. What did she want? To go home and train horses and pray the press leave her alone? To support charities? Sure, the task was noble, but not...fulfilling. Would she be dispatched through Great Britain as a goodwill ambassador? Did she want to seek higher schooling like Richard had? Was there a balance to be found between her personal life and her royal obligations? Richard and Alice seemed to find that balance, but Sophia felt almost rudderless in this moment. Did she want to remain a princess or enjoy the anonymity that Edmund possessed?
She ran a hand over her hair. She'd never felt so directionless before. Why was that? Because she wanted Jax in her life? They had discussed visiting each other using the time machine before Augustus' uncle passed away, but Sophia believed travel wouldn't be approved just for dating.
"You're a Windsor. Duty first. Love second. That's what I did and the nation benefited because of it." Liz's voice filled with pride.
"I had no idea it was such a thought provoking question." He kept his voice light in an effort to put her at ease.
She placed her hands in her lap. "Surprisingly, it is."
"How so?"
"I have some very serious decisions to make regarding my future." She drew in a breath. "And the direction I want to take it in."
He chuckled. "Remember -- a princess is always right."
She sighed, realizing she could only think of one major problem at a time and her future would have to wait. "I have to be right when it comes to Jonas. I have to catch him."
REVIEWS:

5 Stars, Joy Cagil, Amazon Reviewer: "The writing, word choices, and the storytelling are executed with mastery and precision."

5 Stars, Liz Gavin, Amazon Reviewer: "A Princess is always right’ is a very well-written story with likeable characters and lots of adventure. I recommend it for fans of fantasy and/or good books."

5 Stars, A. Brantley, Amazon Reviewer: "I don't read a lot of time travel romance, but I really enjoyed this one! Stephanie Burkhart has an amazing ability when it comes to creating realistic characters and detailed scenes."

ENJOY THIS EXCERPT:

She swatted her hand next to her head like she was swatting a fly. Love could flitter away from her heart like a hummingbird for all she cared. Who needed it? Love hurt.

A knock rapped on the door, but before she could voice a reply, Richard walked in. He crossed the room, raw concern splayed over his face and he knelt before her. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing.""You look annoyed."

"A lady never cusses," she replied.

His lips tipped in amusement. "What else does a lady never do?"

"They never wear the same dress twice."

He pulled up a chair and sat in front of her. "I believe that."

"And a lady never lies," she said.

He slid his hand over hers and laced their fingers together. A sweet jolt pulsed up her arm and she smiled despite herself.

"So what's bothering you?" he asked.

4.99 Kindle Middle School book: 1st Flag of New Hampshire #kindledeal #childrensbook

4.99 Middle School Book:  1st Flag of New Hampshire
Recommended for ages: 9-13

NOTE: Author Stephanie Burkhart is interviewed by Author Regina Andrews about the 1st Flag of New Hampshire.  This interview was originally published in APR 2012.

BLURB:

It’s the start of the school year, and Alyssa has to take American Studies for college prep. She’s paired with classmate Miguel De Soto to find the first flag of New Hampshire, but the flag has only flown four times in New Hampshire’s past. Can Alyssa and Miguel track the flag through history before time is up?

REGINA'S INTERVIEW:

REGINA: I'd like to welcome fellow author, Stephanie Burkhart, here to kick off her blog tour for her latest YA/MS release, "First Flag of New Hampshire."

STEPH: I'm so excited to be here, Gina. I've done several blog tours now and I've noticed I always start off my tours by visiting your blog in little Rhode Island first so I was glad for the opportunity to do so again.

REGINA: You're welcome! Tell us about the book.

STEPH: Alyssa and Miguel are high school seniors at Central High in Manchester, NH. As part of their assignment for American Studies, they're tasked to find out the four times in NH history when the first flag flew and where it is now. Their friends, Greg and Karen, challenge them to a friendly race, adding a sense of urgency to the project.

REGINA: What was the inspiration behind the plot?

STEPH: My American Studies class. I rarely get inspiration from dreams, as I'm a very heavy sleeper. It's funny, I can still remember sitting in the class and my teachers, Mrs. Hussey and Mr. Lord saying this would be a class that would stay with us the rest of our lives. At the time, I was 17 and just laughed, but they were right. At the end of the school year, I knew this class would resonate with me.

REGINA: How long ago was American Studies?

STEPH: 25 years. Can you believe that?

REGINA: Is there really a 'first' flag of New Hampshire?

STEPH: Not really, but I wanted to write a young adult/middle school mystery so I made up the first flag. What I was striving to do was seamlessly blend fact and fiction and I hope I've done that.

REGINA: How long did it take you to write?

STEPH: About a month including the research.

REGINA: How did you come to pick the setting?

STEPH: I grew up in New Hampshire. It just felt right to me. Actually, this is going to be a series. Alyssa and Miguel are going to visit all 6 New England states solving mysteries along the way.

REGINA: What are Alyssa's strengths? Weaknesses?

STEPH: She's determined and focused. Alyssa has a plan. I would say when a wrench gets thrown into her plan, it takes her a bit to work through it.

REGINA: What does Miguel like about Alyssa?

STEPH: Miguel finds her kind with a pleasant disposition. Her determination and focus helps him do the same. His ability to work through a problem helps her do the same.

REGINA: Who did the illustrations?

STEPH: Ginger Nielson. Ginger is a true blessing. She's from New Hampshire, as well. I love how her illustrations bring Aly and Miguel to life. They're perfect!

REGINA: How long have you been writing?

STEPH: About 10 years now.

REGINA: What do you find rewarding about young adult writing?

STEPH: The ability to inspire others – especially young adults and children -  to read. I love watching young people embrace a good story.
