Is Divergent Romantic? #divergent

The "Divergent" series is set in a dystopian future. There are five factions that contribute to the society – Amity, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, and Abnegation. Each has a certain job to do.

The heroine, Beatrice "Tris" Prior, belongs to Abnegation. When she goes for her aptitude test, she learns she's 'divergent' with an aptitude for multiple factions. And being 'divergent' is not good.

When Beatrice switches to Dauntless, she meets 'Four,' a Dauntless initiate trainer. And her is where the 'romance.'

I wouldn't call "Divergent" romantic, but there are romantic elements peppered in the storytelling.

It's the buzz Tris feels when Four casually touches that infuses her skin.

It's the warmth in Tris' cheeks when Four stares at her.

It's the acceleration of Tris' heartbeat when Four pays her compliment.

Tris and Four gravitate toward each other in the face of adversity – this attraction offers not only them, but the reader, hope.

In "Divergent," there's no proclamation of love – just a 'knowing' that Tris and Four are meant to be together. Tris and Four hold hands, they touch, and perhaps in a gesture of trust and intimacy, they share each other's fear landscapes.

There's no traditional romance in the novel, but the reader knows its about the journey Tris and Four will make together and they need as much hope, trust, and respect that love will bring them.

Roth pens an exciting sequel filled with unexpected twists and suspenseful turns with "Insurgent." The Erudite's simulations have devastated the Abnegation and Dauntless factions. Dauntless prepares to regroup, but Tris realizes Erudite's actions were motivated by a secret Abnegation has been keeping. Dare she discover what it is?

Set in the distant future, the book picks up where "Divergent" left off. The Dauntless not under the influence of Erudite's simulation, seek a safe haven with the Amity. From there, they take over their old facility. But Tris, being Divergent, realizes things aren't what they seem. Why does Amity keep the community locked in and what secret is Tobias' father hiding? Dauntless calls for new elections. War with Erudite seems unavoidable, but it is the right thing to do? If Jeanine of Erudite dies, is Evelyn Easton of the factionless a wise choice as leader? Tris struggles for answers in the face of heart pounding action. What will happen when Abnegation's secret is revealed?

Roth's writing is easy to read. She effortlessly draws the reader into Tris's futuristic world. The plot moves fast, keeping the reader on their toes. Roth's characters continue to inspire. Tris realizes there's meaning to Jeanine's actions. Tobias' is loyal to his beliefs, despite constant testing and Christina learns the power of forgiveness. Most of all, the characters learn that just about anything can happen. It's how one deals with those situations, which defines them.  

Unlike other sequels or middle books, "Insurgent" is a worthy follow up to "Divergent." The action will leave you breathless. The characters will mesmerize you, and the plot is full of twists and turns. Insurgent's ending is that rare ending that delivers and leaves the reader hungry for the next book, Allegiant. I recommend this story for readers 12 and up. Insurgent will take you on a wild, nail-biting roller coaster ride.

Roth pens a mesmerizing, heart-pounding novel with "Divergent." Set in the future, Beatrice "Tris" must choose a faction when she turns sixteen. The choice isn't easy. There are five factions that revolve around the following: honesty, peace, selflessness, fearlessness, and knowledge. If you show an aptitude for more than one faction are divergent.

Divergent is not what you want to be. Beatrice's futuristic society rejects the divergent. They are the unknown denominator. They put the world at risk with their unanticipated behavior. Beatrice chooses bravery and select Dauntless as her faction.

Being an initiate in Dauntless isn't what Tris expected. She's tested physically, mentally, and emotionally through the use of simulations developed by the Erudite, which are administered by serums. As Tris discovers Dauntless' divisions, can she find true bravery in herself to expose the truth?

Roth's writing is fast paced, daring the reader to keep up. She paints her futuristic society with just enough brushstrokes to envision Beatrice's world as dark and gloomy, leaving the reader to wonder what caused the world's fate and how long will it remain bleak?

Beatrice is a strong female character who drives the story. Four is mysterious and quiet, not sharing his confidences lightly. As the story progresses, the plot takes off at breakneck speed. Dare Beatrice reveal she is divergent to stop a deadly plot that will ruin two factions? "Divergent" will take you on a roller coaster thrill ride that will leave you breathless.
