What's For Breakfast? Sept is National Breakfast Month :) #nationalbreakfastmonth

Some people love breakfast, some people avoid it. Some only drink coffee for breakfast. Breakfast offers a wide variety of food groups and September is National Breakfast Month, so flip some pancakes, pour some coffee, and enjoy!

Breakfast is the 1st meal of the day and it's intended to break the fast between the previous night's meal and the noon meal. That said, it's important to eat a balanced meal to get your motor running.

Personally, I've never been much of a breakfast person. I'm the type of person where I'm happy with a cup of coffee, a slice of toast, and a bowl of fruit. Some people make it their main meal of the day. My house has a wide variety of options in the kitchen because I have two school-aged boys.

Our favorites include: Honey Nut Cereal, mini-pancakes, toast, bagels, pita bread, granola cereal, English muffins, bacon, eggs, milk, danimals, strawberries, bananas, grapes, blueberries, and who could forget coffee?

What type of breakfast foods do you enjoy? Do you fix "Breakfast for Dinner" every so often?

Fun Fact: Cereal was invented by colonial housewives serving popcorn with sugar and cream.

I'd love to hear about your breakfast. I'm always looking for new ideas.

  1. I suppose with everyone going back to school, that it makes sense September is the breakfast month. Hubby likes to make a big breakfast on the weekends but I'm happy with just something simple and a coffee or soda to wash it down.

  2. I like variety, pancakes, rice crispies, Carnation Instant Breakfast and toast, PopTart and milk, but my favorite is a croissant from my favorite eatery P.Croissant and hot chocolate with whipped cream.

  3. I'm a coffee person and prefer to skip the rest, but I don't mind a hearty brunch on the weekends. But for almost 37 years I got up and made eggs every morning for breakfast. I promise I can do over easy with my eyes closed. For my husband it was the "most" important meal of the day for him. He loved that hearty breakfast! So bacon/sausage, eggs, and toast were a must. I'd try to change it up occasionally and vary the meat or do a different style of egg such as poached eggs on toast, or omelets.

I reserved making waffles, pancakes, crepes, donuts, etc, for the weekends (everyone loved it when I made donuts) and I still use the big waffle iron that was a wedding gift to my mother - I think it's about 90 YO, electric, and still works just fine!

Just don't try to talk to me. LOL My husband would leave me notes on the refrig if there was something important to tell me. He knew I was hopeless and on autopilot. Are we really supposed to be awake before the sun is up?

  4. Pink grapefruit juice (or pink grapefruit), soft boiled egg, toast and instant coffee. variations include substituting either a banana or cheese triangle for the egg and I do love lemon curd. Can just about do an errand on the fruit juice, but really can't cope without breakfast. anne stenhouse

  7. I wouldn't mind a breakfast of popcorn--without the sugar and cream.
Like you, I have that small breakfast with a carb. and a protein and some coffee.
In the beginning of my career, I used to work night shift. When I got home, my mother would have this huge breakfast and I was into it. When I left home, I would eat super type food for breakfast like spaghetti or pot roast. Thank goodness, after I married, I worked more first and second shifts (nurses work all shifts so there was no set shift at that time--not until I became vested). Sorry, I came a little late to your blog. I enjoyed reading it.

  8. Everything sounds yummy!! What I love about Breakfast is the variety. There's so much yummy stuff. What to choose? I do like to make the pancakes and stuff on weekends or special occasions/holidays. I've got some breakfast menus to plan now. hehe
