Snippet Sunday: A Lady Never Lies, steampunk romance #snippetsunday

Hi all, I'm participating in the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday. This month, I'll be taking snippets from my steampunk romance, A Lady Never Lies. You can find the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday list at:

About this excerpt:  The conversation continues...

ENJOY THIS SNIPPET:

Richard pursed his lips. "One should never be punished for falling in love."

"No, but love is complicated."

"Are you talking about us?" he asked.

She frowned. "There is no us. I told you, I won't leave my father."

He stood and placed his hands on his hips, his blue eyes darkening to a deep sapphire. "I would do anything for you."

BLURB:

Jocelyn Dunkirk is not your typical Victorian lady. She dresses in leather, wears goggles and is not afraid to get a little grease under her fingernails. Gentlemen avoid her like a dirty rivet.

Richard Windsor, the Prince of Wales, travels through time to claim Jocelyn's heart, but if it isn't one challenge, it's another. He determines to be a constant, steady presence in her life, hoping to prove he'd make a worthy husband.

Jocelyn's facing a bucket full of problems. The Prime Minister wants her to assist in ending a coal strike before it cripples the nation while her father attempts to recover from a serious injury. Will Jocelyn's dedication to her country and family ruin the one chance she has at love?

  1. Wonderful dialogue, Stephanie. And it was easy to visualize the scene--good beats. :-)

  2. I for one definitely feel there is an 'us' going on here. Great snippet!

  3. One half of them has an "us" -- the other half doesn't realize there's an "us" yet. (And you thought love was complicated! I swear that made sense in my head.)

  4. Well, that's two very clashing ideas on if there's an 'us' or not. Question is, which one of them is going to end up being right? I get the distinct feeling Richard is always going to wish there was an 'us'.

  5. Great, he'll take her, father and all! That simplifies a lot of things, maybe she should reconsider the "us" now.
