Hi all, I'm participating in the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday. This month, I'll be taking snippets from my steampunk romance, A Lady Never Lies. You can find the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday list at:
About this excerpt: Richard and Jocelyn continue their conversation about family.
ENJOY THIS SNIPPET:
"I have a family I never realized existed. I always wanted there to
be more in my family than just my father and I, but I didn't want to
meet them under these circumstances."
"I suppose every family has a secret or two, in a closet."
"But there didn't have to be a secret. What did my aunt do wrong? Fall in love? For that my grandfather disowned her. That's ridiculous and it caused a rift between her and my father that didn't need to be there."

BLURB:
Jocelyn Dunkirk is not your typical Victorian lady. She dresses in leather, wears goggles and is not afraid to get a little grease under her fingernails. Gentlemen avoid her like a dirty rivet.
Richard Windsor, the Prince of Wales, travels through time to claim Jocelyn's heart, but if it isn't one challenge, it's another. He determines to be a constant, steady presence in her life, hoping to prove he'd make a worthy husband.
Jocelyn's facing a bucket full of problems. The Prime Minister wants her to assist in ending a coal strike before it cripples the nation while her father attempts to recover from a serious injury. Will Jocelyn's dedication to her country and family ruin the one chance she has at love?

Families can be annoying that way. Great snippet. :)
ReplyDeleteFamilies are never easy... Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMore intense discussion to follow, no doubt. Many threads to an old family secret. Great excerpt!
ReplyDeleteFor a Victorian, she's amazingly open-minded.
ReplyDeleteFamily always have unnecessary troubles. Such a shame!
ReplyDelete"That's ridiculous and it caused a rift between her and my father that didn't need to be there."
ReplyDeleteMost family rifts are over something ridiculous, at least to an outsider.
Families always seem to have their secrets. Wonder what this one is?
ReplyDeleteA secret or two? I'm finding families have more than two skeletons in their closets. I have to agree with the others before me though, most family rifts are over something ridiculous and petty stupid.
